Revolutionizing Hygiene: The GOJO Story Behind PURELL

GOJO Skid Fabrication

Step into the world of GOJO Industries, where a commitment to innovation and well-being has revolutionized hygiene for over seven decades. Explore the journey of how GOJO, the makers of PURELL, have transformed from a local solution to a global necessity, all while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Saving Lives & Making Lives Better Through Well-Being Solutions

GOJO Industries is a purpose-driven family enterprise that is committed to saving lives and making lives better through well-being solutions. Founded in Akron, Ohio, in 1946, GOJO entered the hand cleaner market when a husband and wife duo developed a healthier and gentler way to remove graphite and carbon black from local industrial workers’ hands. Powered by a spirit of innovation, GOJO continued to evolve their product line, and now, decades later, produces a full line of sanitizers and cleaners, including the first-on-the-market and gold standard for hand sanitizer, PURELL.

A Commitment to Safety, Efficiency & Sustainability

GOJO’s PURELL formula kills more than 99.99% of most common germs that cause illness and was the first to meet FDA hand hygiene requirements with a single pump. Over the past 30 years, the PURELL brand has played a significant role in environmental safety and our nation’s health. As part of their commitment to well-being, GOJO constantly evaluates manufacturing processes and business partnerships to ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Optimized Blending & Continuous Improvement

As part of their continuous improvement initiative, GOJO enlisted the help of Rodem to optimize and streamline their blending room where their small volume ingredients are batched for their extensive line of sanitizers and cleaners, including PURELL. Armed with a design from another engineering firm, GOJO worked with Rodem engineers Rachel Childers and Dave Heheman to create the structural design to accompany the process, which included a valve matrix bridge and ten stations for tote unloading. In addition to the structural design and process improvement, GOJO upgraded tanks, pumps, flow meters, piping, and more as part of their mixing and blending overhaul.

Pre-Fabrication Prevents Welding Woes

The structural design to support GOJO’s processing requirements was a skidded system. The skid was designed by Rodem engineers and built in Rodem’s fabrication shop and then installed onsite at GOJO’s facility in Ohio. The offsite pre-fabrication helped ease welding challenges onsite due to the high alcohol content of the ingredients in the blending room. Rodem foreman, Billy Morrison, and his crew adhered to strict good manufacturing practices to ensure a safe installation and uncompromised quality when tying in the prebuilt skid onsite.

Supporting a Mission of Saving Lives

We know how critical GOJO’s products are to the safety of our country and well-being of its people. The Rodem team was happy to assist GOJO with a streamlined blending room solution and to play a role in supporting their mission of saving lives and making lives better through well-being solutions.
